Spiritual and Religious Support
We firmly believe in the power of spiritual healing, which is why we have a professionally trained staff of chaplains on hand to support patients and families of all faiths. Spiritual and religious activities are an important part of many people's daily lives and health care.
The Pastoral Care Department
Mercy Health Saint Mary's chaplains are board certified and part of the hospital interdisciplinary health care team. The chaplains are professionally prepared to address the diverse religious and spiritual needs of our patients. Chaplains are available to assist you with your spiritual needs Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 6:30 p.m., and during other hours for emergencies on the weekend. To contact a chaplain, please call the Pastoral Care Department at 616-685-6338 (extension 5-6338 from inside the hospital), or ask your nurse to contact the on-call chaplain to assist you.
Services provided by our chaplains include:
Spiritual guidance, prayer and moral support
Assistance in contacting your own clergy/spiritual leader
Access to Catholic Sacraments, including Holy Communion and Viaticum, Anointing of the Sick, Reconciliation (Confession)
Assistance to patients in accessing spiritual rituals that are part of your religious practice
Access to bibles in English and Spanish languages, and other sacred religious books upon request
Our Lady of Mercy Chapel is located on the second level of the Mercy Health Lacks Cancer Center. All patients and visitors are invited to visit this chapel for private prayer.
The Chapel is open daily, 6 a.m.–9 p.m.
Bilingual Catholic Mass is celebrated Monday–Friday, 12:05–12:35 p.m.,

Catholic Mass is broadcast live on TV Channel 55 within the hospital
Chapel Religious Music is broadcast 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on TV Channel 55 within the hospital when services are not offered
