Picture Archiving and Communicating Systems (PACS)
Radiology Images and Computer Systems
Overview
Picture Archiving and Communication System, known as PACS, is a computer-based system that manages the viewing, flow and storage of digital radiology images. The introduction of PACS has revolutionized the ability to send, receive and share critical patient images almost instantly with a radiologist and consulting physicians. It also provides the ability for physicians to view images remotely from another office or from home.
At Saint Mary’s, we also have a cloud-based e-mailing solution called eMix. eMix allows us to email images to a clinical provider in a secure manner. Each user is given a personal username and password, and will have access to the images shared for up to 30 days. The recipient will have the option to view the images, burn a CD of the images or Dicom, and share the images into their own system.
How do I receive my images?
Image and report release can be done for you at Saint Mary’s and at all our Grand Rapids locations. Reports can be printed and CDs can be burned upon patient arrival at our film room, located on the main hospital campus or at any of our off-site radiology locations. You will need to bring a photo ID and sign a consent form upon arrival. If you are picking up a CD for someone other than yourself, you will need a written letter stating your name and the patient’s signature granting you authorization to pick up the CD. The film room is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. If you would like to speak with one of our control desk coordinators, call 616-685-6214.
Below are some educational and troubleshooting guides to assist with problems accessing Easy Access/TAG, eMix Cloud based email images, images on a CD or web PACS. For additional help or troubleshooting, please call our Resolution Center at 888-667-3003.
