The Mercy Health Physician Partners Diabetes & Endocrine Center is the only multidisciplinary adult diabetes center in West Michigan. We're recognized regionally and nationally for our quality diabetes care. Treatment and education is designed around each patient's potential to independently manage their diabetes.

Meet Our Providers

 

 

Emilie Collins, MD, MS
Endocrinologist

Emilie Collins, MD, MS, joined the staff at the Mercy Health Physician Partners Diabetes & Endocrine Center in August 2007. Dr. Collins comes to us from her fellowship in metabolism, endocrine, and diabetes at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She received her BA from Middlebury College in Vermont with a major in psychology and Spanish and her MD from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. Dr. Collins completed her internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of Michigan and completed a master's degree in clinical research design and statistical analysis at the University of Michigan. Dr. Collins will be seeing patients with diabetes, general endocrine disorders with a special focus on polycystic ovarian and metabolic bone diseases.

 

 

 

 

 

Robert Rood, MD
Diabetologist

Robert Rood, MD, Diabetologist, joined the staff at the Mercy Health Physician Partners Diabetes & Endocrine Center in July 2007. Rood completed his undergraduate work in chemistry and earned his doctor of medicine from MSU. He completed his internal medicine residency at Saint Mary's and Blodgett and completed his diabetes and endocrinology fellowship Joslin Clinic - New England and Deaconess Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. He is board certified in internal medicine. Since 1984, Dr. Rood has practiced at Grand Rapids Associated Internists in Grand Rapids with a special interest in Diabetes. He is an assistant clinical professor with MSU and involved in numerous research projects related to diabetes and complications affiliated with diabetes. Dr. Rood will be seeing patients with diabetes and prediabetes at the Saint Mary's Diabetes and Endocrine Center. Many of his patients from his 29 years of practice have followed him to Saint Mary's.

Josefina Shen, MD
Endocrinologist

Josefina Shen, MD, joined the staff at the Mercy Health Physician Partners Diabetes & Endocrine Center in January 2013. Dr. Shen comes to us from her fellowship in endocrinology at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago. She received her MD from the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine in East Lansing. Dr. Shen completed her residency in internal medicine at Loyola University in Chicago. Her clinical interests include diabetes mellitus, osteoporsis, bone metabolism and thyroid disorders.

 

Courtney A. Soubliere, DO, FACOI, CCD
Endocrinologist

Courtney A. Soubliere, DO, FACOI, CCD, joined the staff at the Mercy Health Physician Partners Diabetes & Endocrine Center in May 2012. Specializing in endocrinology, Dr. Soubliere earned her doctor of osteopathy degree at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her residency in internal medicine at Mt. Clemens Regional Medical Center in Mt. Clemens, Mich., where she also completed her endocrinology fellowship. Dr. Soubliere most recently practiced with Tri-County Endocrinology and Nuclear Medicine, P.C., and her clinical interests include diabetes, US-guided thyroid FNA, and bone densitometry.

 

Susan Owen, RN, MSN, CDE

Susan Owen, RN, MSN, CDE, is originally from northeastern Ohio. She received her BSN from the University of Michigan, and ever since, the ongoing Ohio State vs. U of M argument reigns as the major topic at her family's Thanksgiving dinner. She received her MSN with a specialty in nursing education and care of the person with diabetes from Kent State University and her post master's certificate for Nurse Practitioner from Grand Valley State University. She has worked in home health care, research, and private practice with a specialty in diabetes for 26 years.

 

Janette Buhl, FNP-BC, CDE

Janette Buhl, FNP-BC, CDE, is originally from Sparta, Michigan. She obtained a bachelor of science degree with a major in nursing from Roberts Wesleyan College. She has a master of science in community health nursing and postgraduate certification as a family nurse practitioner from Indiana Wesleyan University and graduated as a member of Sigma Theta Tau honors society. Ms. Buhl's health care provider experiences range from hospital-based settings to rural Africa to family primary care practice. She has been at the Mercy Health Physician Partners Diabetes & Endocrine Center since 2001. She became a certified diabetes educator in 2003 and specializes in diabetes management.
