Saint Mary’s Epilepsy Program
Saint Mary’s Health Care is home to the only multidisciplinary, comprehensive adult and adolescent epilepsy program in the Grand Rapids area.
From state-of-the-art monitoring equipment to innovative surgical options to exceptional follow-up care, the Saint Mary’s Epilepsy Program offers new hope, and the latest treatment options, for people with epilepsy.
Taking the lead in West Michigan
Saint Mary’s is the first area hospital to provide the full range of medical and surgical treatment options for epilepsy.
The Epilepsy Program at Saint Mary’s features West Michigan’s first epileptologist – a specialist in the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy.
In addition, neurosurgeon Jürgen Lüders, M.D. provides specialized epilepsy surgery. Dr. Lüders is a Cleveland Clinic-trained surgeon who joined the Saint Mary’s staff in 2004, offering treatment options that were once unavailable in the area.
Surgical treatment includes the procedure known as temporal lobe surgery, a breakthrough treatment that has proven safe and effective. This surgery has helped many epilepsy patients regain control of their condition with low surgical risk.
Today, doctors have more tools than ever to unlock the mysteries of the human brain. Saint Mary’s offers the latest neurological imaging technology to help pinpoint a patient’s condition. Our Video EEG Monitoring provides advanced brain activity monitoring capabilities, and assures patients that their treatment is enhanced by state-of-the-art technology.
