Overview:
The centerpiece of our future focus is a new, $60 million facility. The Hauenstein Center, the only program of its kind in the country, will bring together both inpatient and outpatient neurological services all under one roof for the diagnosis and treatment of neurological diseases including Alzheimer’s, stroke, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease and spine disorders - providing an exceptional level of service and convenience for patients and their families.
The Hauenstein Center will house the latest technology and therapies and be led by a team of specialist physicians, providing care for a wide variety of neurological conditions.
The Center will offer the entire continuum of care:
- Education and prevention
- Diagnosis
- Acute treatment, including surgical options
- Rehabilitation
- Ongoing management
This unique, comprehensive $60 million center, slated to be built on the site of Xavier Hall just west of The Lacks Cancer Center at Saint Mary’s, will include the following features:
- Expanded and consolidated versions of our current neuroscience services: Memory Disorders/Alzheimer’s Program, Parkinson’s Center, Stroke and Spine Clinics;
- the first center for the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy in the state of Michigan, including a 4-bed epilepsy monitoring unit and treatments such as epilepsy surgery which can eliminate seizures;
- ancillary services such as physical therapy, nutrition counseling, social services, nurse practitioner support, and others to provide “one-stop-shopping” for patients and families;
- expanded research partnership with Van Andel Institute on Parkinson’s Disease;
- a new ER/Trauma Center with 45 private rooms designed to significantly improve the patient’s experience, enhance privacy, and facilitate quicker service;
- a state-of-the-art critical care unit with 32 private patient rooms and adjacencies to surgery and other ancillary services for maximum patient convenience;
- a parking structure to accommodate 400-500 spaces for the convenience of our patients and visitors; and a rooftop helistop for AeroMed patients
